In the territory of Tula (in the province of Sassari) a few hundred meters from the lake Coghinas in central North Sardinia, perfectly halfway between Sassari and Olbia. Its location makes it a natural starting point for anyone wishing to visit the north Sardinia.

Lake Coghinas

in the territory of Monte Acuto in the Province of Sassari, was created in 1927, by building a dam across the Coghinas river, at the Muzzone canyon, in the Limbara mountain area. The river rises at the foot of Punta Palai (Bolotana, Province of Nuoro) and flows for about 123 km reaching the sea on the Asinara Gulf; it is called Rio Mannu di Ozieri in its first section, where it runs parallel to the Marghine Goceano mountain range, then becomes Coghinas on the Chilivani plain, where it is fed by tributaries Mannu di Oschiri and Mannu di Berchidda. The Coghinas dam, with a span of 185 m and a width of 58, has a capacity of 254 million cubic metres of water. It was mainly built to act as a source of freshwater, but it also powers a hydroelectric power plant. Despite its man-made origin, the lake has become an important part of the local ecosystem.

From SS 131 take the turnoff to Mores and continue towards Ozieri - Chilivani. From Chilivani take SS 597 towards Oschiri - Tempio. The lake is visible from the road and can be reached by driving over a bridge.

The forest of Monte Lerno is situated in the province of Sassari, within the territory of the municipality of Pattada. It stretches uncontaminated for a surface area of 2853 hectares and is characterised by the presence of a rich vegetation of numerous holm oak woods. A few years ago the territory in which the wood was present was much larger than the present one, but a fire reduced its surface. The reforestation currently in progress gives the visitor an idea of how important the care and the maintenance of the territory is to this community.

A natural wood of holm oaks is discreetly preserved at Sos Littos. From the present floristic composition of the vegetation of this area it should be noticed as a wood in re-evolution that preserves many elements of the tall brush (phillyrea, strawberry tree, etc.). The whole area also has a sizeable number of cork oaks with abundant brushwood dominated by rockrose, heather and strawberry tree. The best cork oaks inside the perimeter are found at Trataxis. The quality of the cork of this territory is particularly appreciated by producers, because of its high yield and quality.

The colours of the vegetation along with the presence of ample spaces in which it is possible to spend a day in the open air, are good reasons to invite the tourist for a visit to the forest.

Ludurru area

This necropolis is hewn into a granite outcrop on the Buddusò tableland. It consists of 6 rock-cut tombs dating from 3200-2800 BC. Some domus have single chambers while others are of the multi-cell type. One of the domus shows traces of red paint on the walls applied in parallel bands on strips in relief.

From Nuoro take SS 389 in the direction of the industrial area of Prato Sardo. Cross SS 131 and drive on to Bitti without passing through any other village. Drive through the town, then on to SS 389 in the direction of Buddusò. From Buddusò take SS 389 in the direction of Alà dei Sardi and after about 500 m you will find to your right a great granite outcrop into which the domus de janas are cut.
